It’s been a funny old week!

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

It’s been a bit of a stressful week, in fact it’s really tested my positive thinking attitude.

I won’t bore you with the details but briefly my other half had a court summons for withholding driver information after being caught speeding. He didn’t withhold the information, by the way, he just couldn’t prove that he’d sent it and the police were saying that they had never received it.

So he had to appear in court on Tuesday and I went along as a witness as it me who had posted his driver information to the Police.

So along we went, happy and safe in the knowledge that we had done everything we could to ensure that the response letter had been returned and how could anyone possibly find us guilty when we are quite obviously good, law abiding citizens!!!

Three hours later other half exited the court with 6 points on his licence and a £500 fine! I was at a loss as to how this could have happened! We told our side of the story, yet we were basically being accused of lying. It was absurd!!!

I practice the Law of Attraction every day, yet somehow I had attracted this horrible situation to myself?

Once home I began pondering how this had happened when oldest son reminded me that he needed his Passport for school as he’s off to France with them on Sunday.

I’ve recently implemented a new filing system for all the vast amount of paperwork that we as a family produce, so I felt very proud and organised as I instantly lay my hands on his passport. As I handed it over he flicked to the back and announced…’It’s out of date!’…..’Pardon’ I said……’It’s expired’ Eldest replied and thrust it back into my hands.

Now, if I had been animated, my eyeballs would have stood out on stalks at that point. Instead I went cold and excused myself for a good cry in the downstairs loo!

After pulling myself together, I telephoned the Passport hotline where I spoke with a young Irish gentleman who was incredibly helpful and efficient.

He got me an appointment at the nearest passport office, one and a half hours away, for the very next day. I now had less than 24hours to get photos taken, signed and form completed. I suddenly turned into Jack Baur as we raced around Coventry collecting all the necessary information.

Before I knew it the next day arrived and I was off on my day trip to Peterborough with youngest in tow. And do you know what? We had a really good day! It was sunny and everyone that dealt with us was smiley and efficient and happy. What a great experience and it wasn’t long before I was back home with a brand new passport.

That was yesterday and today is my Birthday!! Hurray!! I’ve had a great day being pampered by other half and getting fab gifts from all my lovely friends and family. I couldn’t be happier, because Law of Attraction aside…..Life sure is what you make it!

Should I watch this film?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I may well be one of the few people on the planet who hasn’t yet seen Slumdog Millionaire.

As I have a Millionaire related website, I was keen to go and see it and then write a review for the site, but I’m very undecided or maybe just fearful?

Two friends of mine went to see it and absolute loved it! OK, I admit that they didn’t actually ’say’ what they thought of it, I just read their status update on Facebook!!

I then went to visit my inlaws and my other half’s Mum said that she liked it but found it upsetting! Upsetting? But I thought it was a ‘feel good’ movie? ‘Yes, it is’ she said ‘But there are some harrowing bits. It’s a little like Schindlers List, it’s a great film but makes uncomfortable viewing.’ I’ve read no reviews of it so I was quite shocked to hear this. It may well just be her opinion, but it has put me off.

The thing is this. I can watch Horror Films with all the blood and gore that they can muster, but films that tell sad human stories I really struggle with, especially since I’ve had kids.

So, up until now I’ve found plenty of excuses not to go to the cinema to see it. Children are good for that. When you get invited to something that you don’t want to go to, you can say ‘I’m so sorry but I simply can’t get a babysitter that night!’

However, we are flying to the USA in a few weeks and obviously the most important thing that anyone should do when booking a long haul flight is see what films are showing on the plane…and what’s on our plane? You guessed it…..Slum Dog Millionaire!!!

I think it’s the universe’s way of telling me that I should watch it, sad or not. So it looks like Being a Millionaire will get it’s review after all.

Do you like good music?

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

I adore music. My taste may not be everyone’s but I love it. I’ve annoyed many friends and family over the years, making them listen to stuff that they really don’t want to. Like playing ‘Meat is Murder’ by The Smiths during Sunday Lunch way back in the 80’s before declaring that I was going to be a vegetarian. My poor parents they were so nurturing of my tortured teenage soul.

On a lighter note, I want to share my Snow Patrol experience with you.

Last night I trundled off to the NEC with my other half to see Snow Patrol. Now, as with any arena gig they are usually massive affairs, so my arena rule (and I have a rule for most things!) is ‘If you can’t get standing tickets then don’t go!’. That way if you stand as close to the front as humanly possible it’s like being in a cosy intimate gig.

Now, my other half rarely goes to gigs, he leaves that to me, and he did look a little like a frightened bunny as we entered the arena. He finally admitted that he felt like he was somewhere he didn’t belong. Ahhh…bless. I felt quite chuffed that for once I was doing something he didn’t feel comfortable with, which I can tell you isn’t very much at all!

We were due to meet with some friends and as we walked to the front I saw my friend on her boyfriends shoulders waving furiously at me. They were slap bang in the middle of this heaving mass of people. It was my turn to be a frightened rabbit now. I looked up at other half and said ‘I can’t go in there!’. One of my other rules is ‘Go to the front of the gig but stay at the side in case you feel faint, thirsty or need a wee!!’…..which leads me onto my other rule ‘Don’t drink too much in case you need a wee!’

I hadn’t seen my friend in ages, I desperately wanted to catch up with her and meet her new man. So, I took a really deep breath and began to wade my way through the crowd. By the time we reached her I was sweating, palpitating and not looking forward to being squashed. Plus, I’d had a pint and knew I wanted the loo.

I can be quite anxious (come on I have RULES about things!!) so was starting to think…’I am NOT going to enjoy this!’. Then the lights went out and the music began….and right from the start it was BRILLIANT!!! Suddenly all the rules went out of the window, ‘It is OK to stand in the crowd, it is OK to have a drink, and I no longer need a wee!! Hurray!!’ Then off I went into singing, dancing, clapping and shouting mode for two happy hours…..

….as the last song played out and the lights went on, we all agreed that is was a cracking gig. So to honour Snow Patrol here’s some beautiful lyrics by their lead singer Gary Lightbody for you to enjoy.

The Lightning Strike
(iii) Daybreak

Slowly the day breaks apart in our hands
And soft hallelujahs flow in from the church
The one on the corner you said frightened you
It was too dark and too large to find your soul in

Something was bound to go right sometime today
All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained
It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles

And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth
When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God’s own tears
And spread out into shapes like
Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

As motionless cars rust on driveways and curbs
You take off your raincoat and stretch out your arms
We both laugh out loud and surrender to it
The sheer force of sky and the cold magnet Earth

Gary Lightbody 2008

“I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.”

Say ‘Thanks a Million Mum’

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Ok…so it’s almost Mothers Day.

Now to some It’s probably just hype and another way for card companies to make money!

To me, it’s very important and when you read on you’ll see why.

I have three boys and OK the youngest doesn’t even know what day of the week it is and is only concerened about where the next plate of food is coming from, but the other two on Mothers day they actually do stop and think about all the ’stuff’ that I do for them.

Well, not even all the ‘Stuff’ that I do for them but they take it upon themselves to do ’stuff’ for me and to say ‘Thanks Mum.’

I love the home made cards and attempts at making breakfast and the kisses and hugs that kids don’t always remember to give out. I think it is so important to teach kids to say Thanks and this is one way of doing it so I’m all for Mothers day”!!!

The Law of Attraction does work

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I wanted to share an excerpt from an email I had a few days ago from a lady who uses our DreamBuilder application.

“Just a quick line to let you know that just after I registered for the
“Dream Builder” I chose some pictures including one of an island with a beach and palm tree.

I have been wishing for a desperately needed holiday, but couldn’t afford it.
My sister has come into a bit of money from her father-in-law,
and booked a week in Jamaica, this March.
She asked me if I wanted to go, and offered to pay; I accepted gratefully.
Ususally I would be too proud to accept, or feel guilty, but this time I
didn’t, because I was the person that sorted out the probate papers which released his estate in 3 wks rather than 2 years.

That saying of what goes around comes around has never been so appropiate as in this case.”

I think that is such a wonderful story.

Take care in what you think about as it might just come true!

Who do you want to say thank you to today?

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

It’s so important to be thankful and grateful.

To be thankful for what we have, who we have in our lives and for where we are.

Today I want to say thank you to Sarah from Macmillan support who came to see me at home today to talk about my fundraising campaign.

What a kind, friendly and helpful ‘young mum’ (she’ll know what I mean!)

So who are you going to say ‘thank you’ to?

Andrea.
