Some interesting folk!

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I want to share two of my favourite blogs. Derren Brown’s never ceases to satisfy my need for totally useless information. I’m also a big fan of Derren’s. Not sure what he thinks to the Law of Attraction though, probably not much, but hey it works for me.

Derren Brown.

Derren Brown.

I’ve been to see his shows several times, the last one being his latest Enigma tour. He is incredible to watch, a true showman who performs the most draw dropping illusions. Go and see him if you get the chance. The other blog I’ve been drawn to via Mr Brown’s site is by Richard Wiseman He has just launched a new Facebook page where he will soon be revealing a new secret project. Become a fan to find out more.

Cornish Hols!

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Just got back from a wonderful break in Cornwall. The weather was fabulous, the beaches were clean and uncrowded and our accomodation was comfortable.

My dad had taken the two eldest to Center Parcs, so it was just us two and youngest, who had a whale of a time digging in the sand and falling into rockpools.

We've got to go down WHERE!!!

We've got to go down WHERE!!!

We had ‘ordered’ the trip to Padstow whilst working through the prosperity game. We had also ‘ordered’ a meal at Fifteen and Rick Stein’s sea food restaurant. Unfortunately we had to make do with gazing at the menus looking like we were going in to book, but then changing our minds!!

In fact we did go into Rick Stein’s place and booked ourself a table for dinner knowing that they don’t allow young children. The receptionist booked us in and then noticed our grinning toddler sitting in his very battered bright yellow pushchair. ‘I’m sorry we don’t take children under the age of three’. ‘Oh No!!’ exclaimed the OH, ‘Well you’ll just have to cancel our booking’ and trounced out in disgust. We then stood in the nearby chippy giggling.

O.H Outside Fifteen. They don't do just coffee!

On our way back from Padstow, we decided to ditch the Sat Nav and navigate the old fashioned way with a map! Somehow we managed to drive past a place called St Kitts Herbery. As I have a passing interest in herbs we decided to pull in. Outside were gorgeous smelling herbs and a very friendly cat which youngest waved at so vigorously he fell over!

Inside was a wonderful shop full of lotions, bubble baths, creams and chocolate!! All hand made using natural ingredients.

I had a field day picking out some face cream, cleanser and of course…chocolate!!

We had a long chat with the owner Paul and he told us how it was a family run business and when they first started and despite huge debts they persevered with the business and have now found success online and even supply Jamie Oliver’s restaurants.

It was a great story and sounded very ‘Law of attraction’. I’ve been using their products for a week now and I’m very impressed. I might even stopped buying my Neals Yard products and switch to St Kitts.

Coffee, cake and a beauty treatment?

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

What more could a girl ask for!

On Saturday one of my best friends took me to an amazing girlie place in Burbage, Leicestershire.

When she told me we were going for coffee, cake and a beauty treatment, I had no idea what to expect. We arrived at a small industrial estate and entered one of the units. It was like walking into Aladdins cave!

Chandaliers hanging from the ceiling, beautifully set tables, jewellery and hand bags for sale and comfy chairs. We were offered a coffee and each had a half hour beauty treatment. Afterwards we were treated to more coffee and the best home make cake ever!! (Even better than mine!)

It was a wonderful afternoon, they also do lunches and evening meals where you can have a three course meal and beauty treatments. Fantastic!!

Baking again!!

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I can’t help it…I love to bake.

If we want something sweet or a real treat, instead of going to the shops I now bake something.

Over the years I’ve invested in things like food processors and bread makers and this all adds to the ease of making your own stuff!

I also have a ‘baking shelf’ now,(how old am I!!) with flour, chocolate, almonds, mixed fruit, spices etc. In fact everything I need to make something at the drop of a hat!

Yesterday morning I made a Coconut cake and some cookies.

They were gorgeous!!! My 20month old baby, Isaac helped me by testing most of the ingredients and then licked the mixing bowl until it sparkled!!!

The coconut cake is a recipe from my Nan who is 86 years old!! Lives in her own home and looks brilliant at least 10 years younger!! (Must be all that home cooking!)

She got the recipe from a book she has kept since 1950 so I’m going to share it with you.

4oz Self Raising Flour
2oz Sugar
2oz Butter
1oz Coconut
1 beaten egg
2 tbls milk

Topping:
Icing sugar
1 lemon
Coconut

Beat the sugar and butter.
Add the flour, egg, milk and coconut
Bake for 30mins @ 180 degrees or gas mark 4

When cool mix the icing sugar with the lemon and sprinkle with coconut.

Yum!!!!

Here’s a photo of mine.

Here's my cake!

Holidays, Sunshine and the Lottery.

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Isn’t the Sunshine ace!

What a difference it makes to finally have a little bit of summer and longer evenings.

We’ve also just returned from a fortnight in Florida with the whole brood, and got plenty of sunshine there too. We’ve been a few times now and usually stay at my parents holiday home.

Sadly my Mum passed away last year so although we had a great holiday
there was obviously some sadness and high emotions. My Dad came with us and it must have been incredibly hard to be there without Mum.

We returned to a pile of letters and over 400 emails each! After ploughing through them I managed to delete 400 and had just 40 that were of any interest!

One was from a stockist of ours wanting some more of our £1Million notes. When I called her she told me about a customer who had bought a note and put it with a crystal and a lottery ticket whilst using all her powers of positive thinking. And guess what? She had a win on the lottery!! This lady had then gone on to tell all her friends and the stockists sold out within a couple of days.

What fantatstic and exciting news for all involved and great to hear about positive thinking and the law of attraction being put into action.

Do you like good music?

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

I adore music. My taste may not be everyone’s but I love it. I’ve annoyed many friends and family over the years, making them listen to stuff that they really don’t want to. Like playing ‘Meat is Murder’ by The Smiths during Sunday Lunch way back in the 80’s before declaring that I was going to be a vegetarian. My poor parents they were so nurturing of my tortured teenage soul.

On a lighter note, I want to share my Snow Patrol experience with you.

Last night I trundled off to the NEC with my other half to see Snow Patrol. Now, as with any arena gig they are usually massive affairs, so my arena rule (and I have a rule for most things!) is ‘If you can’t get standing tickets then don’t go!’. That way if you stand as close to the front as humanly possible it’s like being in a cosy intimate gig.

Now, my other half rarely goes to gigs, he leaves that to me, and he did look a little like a frightened bunny as we entered the arena. He finally admitted that he felt like he was somewhere he didn’t belong. Ahhh…bless. I felt quite chuffed that for once I was doing something he didn’t feel comfortable with, which I can tell you isn’t very much at all!

We were due to meet with some friends and as we walked to the front I saw my friend on her boyfriends shoulders waving furiously at me. They were slap bang in the middle of this heaving mass of people. It was my turn to be a frightened rabbit now. I looked up at other half and said ‘I can’t go in there!’. One of my other rules is ‘Go to the front of the gig but stay at the side in case you feel faint, thirsty or need a wee!!’…..which leads me onto my other rule ‘Don’t drink too much in case you need a wee!’

I hadn’t seen my friend in ages, I desperately wanted to catch up with her and meet her new man. So, I took a really deep breath and began to wade my way through the crowd. By the time we reached her I was sweating, palpitating and not looking forward to being squashed. Plus, I’d had a pint and knew I wanted the loo.

I can be quite anxious (come on I have RULES about things!!) so was starting to think…’I am NOT going to enjoy this!’. Then the lights went out and the music began….and right from the start it was BRILLIANT!!! Suddenly all the rules went out of the window, ‘It is OK to stand in the crowd, it is OK to have a drink, and I no longer need a wee!! Hurray!!’ Then off I went into singing, dancing, clapping and shouting mode for two happy hours…..

….as the last song played out and the lights went on, we all agreed that is was a cracking gig. So to honour Snow Patrol here’s some beautiful lyrics by their lead singer Gary Lightbody for you to enjoy.

The Lightning Strike
(iii) Daybreak

Slowly the day breaks apart in our hands
And soft hallelujahs flow in from the church
The one on the corner you said frightened you
It was too dark and too large to find your soul in

Something was bound to go right sometime today
All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained
It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles

And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth
When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God’s own tears
And spread out into shapes like
Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

As motionless cars rust on driveways and curbs
You take off your raincoat and stretch out your arms
We both laugh out loud and surrender to it
The sheer force of sky and the cold magnet Earth

Gary Lightbody 2008

“I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.”
George Elliot
