The Honeymoon Isn’t Over Yet

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

So we’ve been married for a whole 2 months and so far so good.  After the big day itself, we did have a few days away in sunny Dorset…and it really was sunny despite being the middle of November!

We visited both Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, had a day trip to Bournemouth, and it was absolutely lovely.  I really wouldn’t have wanted anything else from a honeymoon….that is until my new in-laws offered us the trip of a lifetime to Hong Kong!

My husband grew up in Hong Kong due to his dad taking a job out there and as a very generous wedding gift, his parents are not only paying for us to visit his childhood home, but they are also having our 4-year-old for the entire time!! What a honeymoon!!!

Now to do some serious shopping! First things first, some replacement sunglasses. I’m especially liking the Arnette brand at the moment, particularly for running. And then there’s new shoes, T-shirts, dresses…etc. etc.

How exciting!

What a great 2011 and here’s to 2012

2011 was quite simply brilliant!

For those of you that have been following this blog, you’ll know full well that I got married! Yes I did it…and it was fantastic!! We couldn’t have wished for a more perfect day! The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the whole thing went off without a hitch!

And look…here’s a piccie of me and the new mister!

Although we had a fantastic time I do feel a little sad that it’s all over and I’ve now got nothing left to organise and I do like to organise!

Although we do have one big adventure left! My hubby was bought up in Hong Kong and my new in-laws are paying for return flights for us both so that I can see where he used to live. What an amazing and generous gift and one thing is for sure, I won’t be needing any electric blankets like I have on my bed at the moment. Brrrrr!!!

Something old, something new….

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

….you know the rest.

Not sure where that rhyme comes from or even why brides still recite it, but it feels like the right thing to do for our wedding.

Something new…is of course the dress. Something borrowed….my cousin is lending me her bracelet to wear. Something blue…..it has to be the garter!

But what about something old? That was the one that I was struggling with until my dad told me that he’d repaired my mum’s old citizen watch that he’d given her as a gift some years before and that he’d like me to wear it. I was very touched and started filling up….again!

I now have everything I need. Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

The story of how we met

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

It’s OK, I’m not going to actually bore you with all the details of how we both met, but it was one of the questions asked of us by the woman conducting our wedding ceremony.

I have to say that I felt a little embarrassed as it isn’t some fabulous romantic story where our eyes met across a crowded floor and it was love at first sight. No…we met through online dating!

Seven years ago, online dating was frowned upon, at least it was in our house. My mum wouldn’t even tell my dad how we met!

But now, where as the most popular way to meet used to be through work, it’s now  online dating. And if it’s free online dating then that’s even better!

It’s worked for us. We were both single parents and lets face it the chances of meeting someone in a bar or club were pretty slim. We probably had about five or six dates with other people before finally meeting each other and I was on the verge of giving up.

But I didn’t and I’m so glad that I persevered as here we are 7 years later and on the verge of our wedding day.

All together now…..awwwwww!

Is smoking OK when it’s a cigar

Monday, October 17th, 2011

I’ve been thinking about buying OH a really nice and expensive cigar for him to smoke after the wedding.

The only problem is….he gave up smoking a couple of months ago, much to my delight! I’m concerned that a cigar specials will get him smoking again!!

I don’t know anything about smoking, or even how people get hooked! After all, I have tried it and couldn’t stand it! But I know that people see cigars as being different, certainly not the same as a cigarette. I would even go so far as to say that I quite like the smell!

I think I will buy him one and if he starts smoking again? I suppose he’s already given up once so could do it again!

To video or not to video?

Future hubby and I have been debating whether to film the wedding.

We saw a fantastic idea on Dragons Den a few weeks ago. Two ex female TV producers were hiring out professional quality camcorders. The idea was that the wedding guests take it in turns with the cameras, taking discreet footage of the bride, or interviewing other guests.

They then returned the cameras and the two girls who would edit all the footage together to make one funny, quirky or romantic film. It looked amazing and we were hooked! Only problem is, we’ve already blown the wedding budget and it obviously costs a lot of money.

Not to be outdone, OH has done his best to call in favours from friends, business associates and family to see if they can lend us some good quality cameras so we can do a DIY job!

An alternative to a wedding ring

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Wedding plans are in full swing and it’s hard to believe the wedding is now only 10 weeks away!! How did that happen? Time flies but this is ridiculous!! I was a calm and relaxed bride, now I’m stressed out and starting to feel a bit sick as I realise what I need to do to make it all happen!

On my travels around the internet (which is all I seem to do during the evening) I came across something I’d not seen before, Promise rings! It seems that you exchange them as a symbol of your love and commitment, without the having to get married!

What a great idea and think of all the money I would have saved not getting married and divorced twice before!

You can read more promise ring information here.

Are appetite suppressants the answer?

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

So I’m still complaining about losing weight. But you know what? I simply eat too much.

I’ve got a healthy appetite and I like to eat. Fortunately, I’m not fussy about eating between meals, but I do like to sit down to a plateful of food at meal times. I think that’s why Slimming World works so well for me because you can pretty much fill your boots, so long as it’s all the right stuff!!

It may be that in my case an appetite suppressant is the answer to help stave off those hunger pangs, just until I’ve lost enough weight for the wedding.

Losing weight for an occasion

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

When I get married in November I’ve set a goal to be the same weight that I was when I got married for the first time nearly 20 years ago.

I’ve done pretty well so far thanks to Slimming World, but now I’m stuck with half a stone to go. It’s 11 weeks until the wedding and I’ve looked at alternatives to healthy eating such as fat burners.

I was listening to Nina Mishkov being interviewed on the radio last week and she said,’The shortest diet book in the world would read “Eat less, move more”‘.

She’s right of course, but how many of us out there are looking for that magic pill that would take all the hard work out of dieting?

Wedding gifts

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

Not gifts for us, though that would be very nice, I mean gifts for our attendants. (Is that the right word?)

Bridesmaids. That’s easy. I only have one, my step-daughter to be. She’ll be 10 years old, so I’ve thought about getting her a nice bracelet or necklace.

Mum’s. Well….sadly I don’t have a mum anymore, so it’ll just be mother-in-law. But what if they haven’t helped with any of the wedding plans? Do you still buy her a gift?

Best man. That’s my brother-in-law to be, so I guess it’ll be up to future hubby to buy him a gift.

I’ve looked through the web and it seems that Americans are the best at coming up with quirky and unusual gifts. The best man and ushers and called groomsmen and there are plenty of sites offering gift ideas. Personalized Groomsmen Gifts seem to be big business and they have some fantastic ideas.

Maybe there is a niche in the market here in the UK? If anyone has any good gift ideas, leave me a comment! :)
