Halloween and birthday treats

Halloween is always an extra special time of year in our house. Yes the kids love to dress up and inflict heart attacks on our elderly neighbours but that isn’t the only fun they have!

Halloween is also middle sons birthday and we always have a fabulous Halloween party to celebrate.

This year, I was on the look out for different, unusual and above all, cheap decorations for the party when I was contacted by Poundland who asked me if I’d like to have a look at their range.

I have shopped at Poundland before but hadn’t considered it for Halloween, so I was quite surprised when I popped into town and saw that their window was crammed full of fantastic decorations, costumes, horror make-up and everything was…you guessed it… a whole pound! Brilliant!

Poundland in Coventry used to be Woolworths, so it’s a pretty big store with plenty of choice and I have to say I was really very impressed. The store stocked pretty much everything you could want from table decorations, plastic glasses and paper plates through to the whole costume and when you have three children to buy for, value for money is the key!

I filled my basket and the whole lot came to just £15 which I thought was amazing value for money.

I showed middle son when I got home and we started to plan the big bash for Halloween night. He was over the moon with all the goodies I came home with and I feel confident that all of his friends are going to love it too and have a fantastic time.

It’s been a funny old week!

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

It’s been a bit of a stressful week, in fact it’s really tested my positive thinking attitude.

I won’t bore you with the details but briefly my other half had a court summons for withholding driver information after being caught speeding. He didn’t withhold the information, by the way, he just couldn’t prove that he’d sent it and the police were saying that they had never received it.

So he had to appear in court on Tuesday and I went along as a witness as it me who had posted his driver information to the Police.

So along we went, happy and safe in the knowledge that we had done everything we could to ensure that the response letter had been returned and how could anyone possibly find us guilty when we are quite obviously good, law abiding citizens!!!

Three hours later other half exited the court with 6 points on his licence and a £500 fine! I was at a loss as to how this could have happened! We told our side of the story, yet we were basically being accused of lying. It was absurd!!!

I practice the Law of Attraction every day, yet somehow I had attracted this horrible situation to myself?

Once home I began pondering how this had happened when oldest son reminded me that he needed his Passport for school as he’s off to France with them on Sunday.

I’ve recently implemented a new filing system for all the vast amount of paperwork that we as a family produce, so I felt very proud and organised as I instantly lay my hands on his passport. As I handed it over he flicked to the back and announced…’It’s out of date!’…..’Pardon’ I said……’It’s expired’ Eldest replied and thrust it back into my hands.

Now, if I had been animated, my eyeballs would have stood out on stalks at that point. Instead I went cold and excused myself for a good cry in the downstairs loo!

After pulling myself together, I telephoned the Passport hotline where I spoke with a young Irish gentleman who was incredibly helpful and efficient.

He got me an appointment at the nearest passport office, one and a half hours away, for the very next day. I now had less than 24hours to get photos taken, signed and form completed. I suddenly turned into Jack Baur as we raced around Coventry collecting all the necessary information.

Before I knew it the next day arrived and I was off on my day trip to Peterborough with youngest in tow. And do you know what? We had a really good day! It was sunny and everyone that dealt with us was smiley and efficient and happy. What a great experience and it wasn’t long before I was back home with a brand new passport.

That was yesterday and today is my Birthday!! Hurray!! I’ve had a great day being pampered by other half and getting fab gifts from all my lovely friends and family. I couldn’t be happier, because Law of Attraction aside…..Life sure is what you make it!
